Looking for a book club? Join Pages of the Past, our Historical Society book club! Our July book is “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” by Kim Michele Richardson, a historical fiction novel set in 1930s Appalachia.
This fascinating work of historical fiction tells the story of 19-year-old Cussy Mary Carter, one of the last “blue people” of the Kentucky mountains. Set during the Great Depression, her story of prejudice and identity, coupled with that of the Pack Horse Library project, makes this a captivating read.
Published in 2019, this novel was recognized by PBS Books and was one of the most popular book club books of 2021 by Reading Group Choices
